Watching reel after reel of Anna Nicole's pallid, buxomy body made me feel like I was back in the hellish days of the Runaway Bride fiasco. Yes, Anna Nicole Smith led a sad life. Yes, she obviously had a premature, and also sad, death. Show her picture with the dates of her birth and death, and move on. That should have been the extent of the coverage. Instead, as Jon Stewart notes, CNN went a record 90 minutes without a commercial break covering Anna Nicole Smith's passing. Ninety minutes!

According to BeAWitness.org, the obsession cum perversion with Anna Nicole should be no surprise: in June of 2005, the genocide in Sudan was the subject of 47 stories on CNN. In contrast, the Runaway Bride received 85, Tom Cruise 199, and, here's the kicker, Michael Jackson 878. Fox was proportionally worse, with 41, 98, 213, and 1,753 resepective segments.
