"Power, money, persuasion, supplication, persecution -- these can lift at a colossal humbug -- push it a little -- weaken it a little over the course of a century; but only laughter can blow it to rags and atoms at a blast.
Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand." -Mark Twain

"The political and commercial morals of the United States are not merely food for laughter, they are an entire banquet."
- Mark Twain

Beyond a Shadow of a Doubt

Notes/Comment From Sam:

Regardless of how America reacts to the new U.A.E. ports contract, it is small fries for our image in the Arab world compared to Guantanamo Bay and the photos from Abu Ghraib--a SECOND batch (go here or here) of which were just released.

Personally, I think Hillary Clinton, Eddy Kennedy et. al. were mistaken in their immediate opposition to the deal. The Dubai-based port company has operated more than 20 ports on 5 continents, and yet to have a security breech or complaint. It is interesting to note, as well, that our ports are currently in the hands of a British company, and, more importantly, that all inspections still remain in the hands of U.S. government officials. If we are really concerned about port security, the uproar should be directed toward the dismal fact that we inspect only 5% of the containers.

Wouldn't it be sad irony if, after all of the Democrats' howls, the ports were sold to one very special, good ol' American company...HALLIBURTON?
